Beth Hinnen left the corporate world in 1998 to study Yoga, completing over 1,000 hours in teacher trainings, particularly focusing on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, a philosophy which closely aligns with Buddhism. In 2008, she began studying Zen Buddhism including in-person month-long monastic retreats (in total, living for a year as a monk), and in 2020, she found Vipassana and certified in The Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.
Beth began teaching at Insight Meditation Community of Denver (IMCD) in 2022, and joined the IMCD Council, ultimately becoming co-leader and a member of the Teachers Collective. In August, 2024, she left IMCD and co-founded Insight Denver, where she currently serves as Board Chair and as a member of the Teachers Collective.
In addition, Beth hosts a Meetup group, Meditation at Mayu, and for the past four years, has led an online Dharma Wednesdays class that discusses the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita along with Buddhist teachings, Sufi poetry, and Christian/Judeo principles. Beth also teaches twice a year at her Yoga mentor’s community, Reverend Jaganath Carrera’s Yoga Life Society in New Jersey, and has taught at Insight Meditation Community of Colorado (David Chernikoff’s group). She studies with a variety of online teachers, with Durango Dharma Center, and individually with Justine Dawson (www.justinedawson.com), and Dave Smith (www.davesmithdharma.com). Most importantly, she lives by the Buddha’s purported last words, “work on your own salvation diligently.”
